千萬不要接近老虎,它會吃了你的。What is the meaning of 了 in this sentence?

吃了=吃掉. I've seen this construction used with other verbs where the outcome is that the object is gone (e.g. 杀, 忘).

@murrayjames,

When 了 is used after a verb, there are two situations: 1. It means the action has already happened. 2. The action will happen in the future or you assume it will happen. So here it's the second usage.

i.e. 不要逼(bi1: to force)他,如果他走了怎么办?

@pefferie,

Yes! "掉" is used after a verb to focus the results of the action.

i.e. 改掉; 戒(jie4 to quit)掉. You can also say 改了;戒了.
