It was three and a half hours into the grueling Beijing marathon that Kathy sprained her ankle. She had been running on a soft gravel path near the Great Wall when her left leg buckled and she came down hard. As she stood up, the sharp pain in her foot was evidence enough the race was over. But she nonetheless hobbled towards the finish line, the constant ache in her side now mercifully forgotten. "I've been through worse," she muttered. "Compared to the HSK this is a piece of cake."

Good test guys. Challenging too. First time I'd run into 常年, 恨不得, and 动不动. None of which I managed to get right. Also really like the expression 话里有话. Useful stuff.

@orbital,

HSK 的选择填空里有很多考俗语的题,而这一部分恰恰也是最难准备的,因为这类词很多,却很难收集。所以,准备考HSK的朋友们应该早积累,这样才更有把握。

@orbital - I also learned 动不动 from this one. Assumed it had something to do with 一动不动 to start, then realized that didn't make any sense. Gail claims it's a pretty colloquial expression.

Excellent selection of trickier constructions with familiar characters (动不动,要不,常年 etc.)

This is just what the intermediate learner needs after they feel comfortable with the first few hundred Hanzi. Keep it up!
