For those of you wondering how long KTV Wednesday could hold out without showcasing a boy band, our answer is three weeks.Da Zhang Wei, the lead singer of The Flowers, has been something of a celebrity since his early childhood. Born and raised in Beijing, the now twenty-something is a bone fide celebrity with music about as infectious and catchy as you can... steal? In 2006 The Flowers became embroiled in controversy when the melodies to roughly half of their music was found to have been blatantly lifted from other artists. The bands initial reaction was obstinate denial. The reaction from their label EMI? A quick and quiet settling of accounts. A quick english account of the controversy is online here, for the curious. In the meantime, enjoy the music. It's funny and maybe a bit sappy, but cute.

This song is truly horrendous. Luckily all the other ones are fairly bearable!

I thought you were commenting on the new song. As much as I find Dui Mian De Nu Hai pretty grating I was going to stand up for Richie Jen, since Shang Xin Tai Ping Yang is not bad. But yeah - this one is as atrocious as it is addictive. Not sure if it's funnier that their music is so awful yet popular or that it's all ripped off.

These guys kick ass for several reasons:
-Their first two albums (幸福的旁边 and 草莓声明) kicked ass and were completely groundbreaking for Chinese rock
-大张伟 was like 14 at the time they were released.
-They worked their way up from the bottom, playing in bars and whatnot, 大张伟 is the son of a regular worker, not some producer
-大张伟 is completely honest about selling out, and while I don't like their recent music very much, that's fine, I'm not their target audience, the 老百姓 are. Their goal is to give taxi drivers and high school students happy music to listen to.
Apparently I'm a complete nerd...but...永远支持花儿乐队!!!!
haha

@startman1,
one more reason:
大张伟 is a local 北京崇文 boy :)
