Because if you said that you had the coupon at home and just stood there like tank man until you got your ten percent off, we're pretty sure that McDonald's would just give you the discount. The videos never work, I am in China so I turn my VPN off when using pop-up-Chinese. Then I try again by turning it on and going on youtube. Nothing works. I checked my settings. It's really frustrating. Had I known it was going to be that tough to study Chinese (which is already hard to study) I would have never bought the membership to this site.

If you're in China, the easiest way is to visit your settings page and change the streaming mode to "China", as that will serve the videos from Youku instead of Youtube and avoid the entire trans-Pacific lag. If you're still having trouble and can send us an email (service@popupchinese.com) with details on your browser and OS we can try to replicate and maybe will be able to offer some help.

And we really don't want you frustrated and are always happy to offer a refund. If you're unhappy just email us and ask for it. It's not a big deal.

Could any iPad users (generation 2 and above) let me know whether they are able to watch any of the videos? It's to figure out whether my inability to watch them has anything to do with my still using the 1st generation or whether it's something else. Will update to the new device when it comes available. Thank you!

Also still no luck on the iMac. The site FluentU has their videos all running with a very similar set-up. That is where I am going in the meantime. Other than that still faithful to my PopUp.

Just to share an update, right now the Youku videos seem to work in all browsers and on all devices. If anyone is running into these problems, one possibility is to try and change your settings to stream from mainland China. I don't know if this is workable given the lag.

By contrast, the Youtube videos work on every desktop browser save Safari on the Mac, where the issue seems relatively new (someone else is running into it here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/17241230/youtube-api-player-no-longer-works-on-safari). The last time I checked my iPad (purchased 1+ years ago) supported the videos but my iPhone (relatively new) does not.

Normally it's tough for us to debug the Youtube issues from Beijing, as the Pacific lag makes the loading speeds too slow to effectively debug. I'm in Hong Kong right now and will be here for the next few days, so am hoping to hack away at these problems to the extent possible. That said, I'm not sure how much progress I'll be able to make since the issue seems specific to the Youtube API and that is a bit of a black box for outside developers.
