Until the age of five, Simon had never known misery, his life being a series of happy discoveries, as the young boy discovered in turn the pleasures of self-locomotion, the power of speech, and eventually the joy of socializing with a group of well-adjusted peers in the local kindergarten. And yet these good times were not to last, as events beyond his control conspired to end this idyllic period of this life.

Learning Chinese? Our Chinese podcast today is for absolute beginners to mandarin. In it we cover some useful words and phrases for talking to children, and learn the basics of how to make simple sentences using adjectives. By the end of this ten minute show, you'll also know how to use simple possessives to say that something is yours, or his, or hers.

I love your site and you're competing sites chinesepod is also very good. Your dialogues are much more clever but one great advantage of chinesepod is the ability to click the back arrow and go back and listen to small pieces of the dialogue over and over easily so in the spirit of spirit of the freeloaders everywhere, I am requesting that you add such a feature. Thank you so much

@david.minet,

You can listen line-by-line on the Transcript tab -- just click the small triangle to the left of the dialogue. All of the older lessons on Popup have this, including this one (though on recent podcasts this needs to be updated).

This is a premium feature, which seems fair to me. At ChinesePod you can't even listen to their podcasts without a paid subscription...

my impression is that the meaning of 坏 is more along the lines of 'evil' or 'with bad intent' as opposed to 'not good'. is this why on the quiz 你妹妹好,你真不好 isn't the correct answer and it is 你妹妹好,你太坏了 instead?
