None of us had heard of this film until last night. After just a few minutes though, we were positive it was the perfect selection for this week's Hollywood guessing game. So listen in and see if you can guess our surprise film from nothing more than its Chinese soundtrack. And if you can, get your guesses in to echo@popupchinese.com for a chance to win a free month-long premium subscription to Popup Chinese, where we make learning mandarin fun and easy.

You really shouldn't go to so much effort just for me, and so I hereby once again announce my retirement from Film Friday - after I provide the answer for this week :-)

I won't give away too much of a clue, but if I say the title is SB, you'll know what I mean. Let me know if you want me to be more specific :-)

Anyway, sorry for the late response, but I'm in Beidaihe this weekend and didn't get to a computer until now.

I like imron's clue the best, because it works on multiple levels :)

I swear there is the faintest, most subliminal arf-arf dog barking imitation at the very end of the podcast.

It was the last puzzle piece.

I still have no idea what movie this is. What happened to the good old days when someone would just leave the name of the film in a comment and I'd fire it off to Echo in an email?

Some of us live by charity here.... :)

This movie is one of nine (!) sequels/spin-offs. That's how good the original was. The Godfather got two sequels, Star Wars ended up with five, and following my solid logic, this movie is better than those two movies combined!

Wow. Consider me deeply, deeply disturbed. SB, indeed!

@stratman1 - By that metric, this would be even better than Police Academy and the Ernest movies.

Wow. I didn't make the connection between this and it's prequels either, although I'd heard of one or two. I'm still amazed/impressed/stunned some of you guys got it.

Hey Guys,

Honestly, I really didn't expect so many people would guess the film. I think it is mostly because of imron.

哈哈都怪我是不是?Well it's just as well that I'm retiring then :-) Honestly speaking though I'm sure it's less to do with me, and more to do with a Google search using a couple of choice keywords.

We've got a pretty large number of incorrect guesses actually. I'd be curious how many listeners actually come to the site instead of picking us up through iTunes/RSS.

A fair game anyway. Statistically, I'd say we're bound to end up with something that Imron doesn't know ONE of these days. But I also thought we'd have him for sure with this one. So I will be keeping my eyes open for Chinese dubs of French New Wave cinema, and if anyone has good Chinese dubs of revolutionary Soviet films please send them in.

Hence my decision to quit while I'm ahead :-)

With Imron's language skills and Google-Fu, I think the only chance you had of him missing one was taking an all-signing, no-talking scene from "Children of a Lesser God." :)

Oh... I'm pretty sure we can stump him, Frank. The problem is managing that while ALSO putting out a clip that anyone else has a half-decent chance of guessing.

Our first but probably not last film about talking dogs. So congrats to everyone who got it right, including the always impressive Imron. Echo will be picking our winner and contacting them later this afternoon....

We'll be publishing the next Film Friday a bit later today, along with the next edition of Dream of the Red Chamber.
