I've been listening to podcasts on my iPod via some kind of podcast subscription, but now I get the message that it won't be updated any longer but I need the podcast app.

I can find the podcast app in the German iTunes store. I looked up Popupchinese but I think all I get is the podcast subscription I already have.

Is it possible that I can't get it in Germany? What is its name?

TIA

What piece of software is giving you what exact message?

I start the iPod, open Music, which contains both stuff I've copied myself and podcast subscriptions. I see Popup Chinese, showing 55 Episodes, and click on that. I didn't load these, so it must be a kind of podcast subscription. It contains lessons and Sinica. Now, if I pull on 'Get More Epöisodes...' it gives the message: 'Podcasts Have Moved - New episodes can be downloaded using the Podcasts app.' Ah - now I understand - it means the *Apple* podcasts app. I thought it meant a real app. like the Chinesepod one.

This may have something to do with iOS6.

Sorry, I withdraw the question - will have to fish around to see what's going on.

Yes, Apple have changed the way they handle podcast subscriptions. The Podcast app is no longer within iTunes music, but is a separate app, and through it you can subscribe.

I now get a list of podcasts in Popup Chinese, but none of them has a date any longer, unfortunately. But actually, I do see a date on one view. There is a picture of a woman wearing two necklaces and not much else.

I do prefer the Chinesepod system where I can choose one lesson. Here, I can choose one too - I can't tell what level it is till I listen - but I can check that in advance. But if I'm not careful, the next lesson will start, and as soon as I've started listening, I've lost an easy chance to hear the beginning again. Podcasts I have listened to are removed (fair enough, as I can't easily remove them myself). Anyway, it's the same system as before.
