At Level 2 on the New HSK, reading passages consist of a single sentence with four optional responses. That is the good news. The bad news is that only one answer makes sense, and your Chinese has to be good enough to pick it out of the crowd. In a real test environment, you will have slightly less than a minute to answer each question. Good luck!

Is there a mistake here?

请问去北京语言大学怎么走?

他正在问路。

Why would the correct response to this question be in the third person? Or is the scope of "response" on this test include both answers to the questions and descriptions of the questions themselves?

Also, I believe these sentences are missing an 儿 or 里:

上海的天气比这好多了。

他在哪呢?

Finally, is 这部手机 still common? I usually hear 个 with 手机. "部"这个量词让我想起来固定电话。

@toneandcolor,

There's no problem with these sentences:

请问去北京语言大学怎么走?

他正在问路。

这部手机是谁的?

"部" is more common to be used as the measure word of 手机 in writing speech.

Yes, thanks very much for the suggestion about 儿, fixed it.

Hmmmm, not quite sure about what you mean "Why would the correct response to this question be in the third person? Or is the scope of "response" on this test include both answers to the questions and descriptions of the questions themselves?", the correct response is the second one.

WOW! The new HSK test is not nearly as challenging as before. Even at lower levels I used to get a couple wrong, due to the use of complex questions and the intense similarities between the possible answers. Even at level two you really had to know your stuff about Chinese grammar and also have a decent vocabulary under your belt before you could expect to get through it in under 12 minutes.

And even then perfect scores would be few and far-between.

I agree with Trevelyan, this new HSK test doesn't challenge the testee much at all.

I will call him...Mini-HSK! (Mini HSK, you don't complete me! You're quasi-cerebral. You're semi-competency-quotient-compliant. You're the margarine of exams. You're the Diet Coke of tests. Just one calorie, not testy enough. )

Here's tonight's top five list. Top five new names for the "New HSK Test"...

And here we go:

Number five-HSZK Test, 汉语水平有障碍的考试

Number four-HMK Test, 汉语莫水平考试

Number three-JDDBDLHSK Test, 简单得不得了汉语水平考试

Number two-HSBCZK Test, 汉语水平不存在考试

And the number one new name for the "New HSK Test"................NYMHSK Test, Not-Your-妈妈's HSK Test!

(Where's the accompanying strains of the world's most dangerous band when you need them?)
