Bradley Cooper's legs stretched out happily in his limousine. His lower limbs knew now that the actor's face had monopolized his public image for too long: back home it was impossible for them to even drop by Dolce or Ortolan without his smile drawing in at least one admiring fan. But in China things were different. Where else could a pair of legs get this sort of attention without even speaking the local language?

Hi Guys,

A bit of a light lesson schedule for this week. Things have been a bit in flux as Brendan and I have been on the road doing various VISA stuff in Hong Kong. Our next lesson should be coming out fairly soon anyway. Hope you enjoy this one in the meantime.

And no excuses not to know who Bradley Cooper is when Echo talks about him now! :)

Actually... I couldn't. They had a lot of portrait shots, but nothing landscape. If you can find something better send it in and we'll use it instead. No naked legs though....

Outside Popup Chinese, I've never heard of the guy. Looks a bit like a former boy band member turned grizzled junkie from the pic though.

Orbital, you have not seen Alias? that is where i first saw him, i never paid attention to him, he is doing fine as an actor. i guess he has some kind of charms over girls. I believe in Alias the best actor for me was the main good guy/villain Arvin Sloane played by Ron Rifkin

@walid,

Yeah.... believe it or not. I've heard of Alias but have never seen it. I'm based in Shenzhen though, so hopefully that's a bit of an excuse. We don't get a lot of major US releases, so it is usually DVD or nothing. I'll look for this one the next time I'm in a DVD store. Plenty of those at least. :)

@alhoulton,

I thought I was the only one who loved Bradley Cooper :D

@Echo

The picture isn't bad, I have a larger version as my wallpaper! If you could make a conversation featuring Daniel Wu I would be extremely happy haha :D

@gingersue4242,

Haha, I just don't like his jacket/shirt on that picture. I have a signed photo at home.

About Daniel Wu, we'll see if we can come out with a good one. Not many people in our team actually know about him though... The reason I knew about him is because I have a friend who looks very much like him :)

Btw, if you like Bradley Cooper, you definitely don't want to miss this podcast -- Bradley speaks Mandarin http://popupchinese.com/lessons/film-friday/hell-freezes-over/discussion#comment-7244.

@Echo,

Yeah I've listened to it, he sounds terrible! He has such a nice voice though.

On a similar note - I put something on facebook about Andy Lau's new film What Women Want (I love Andy Lau). My sister commented - Who is Andy Lau! I thought of your podcast and was tempted to say - he's only the famous, singing, dancing, acting Andy Lau!!! But she wouldn't get it... :)

@gingersue4242,

Lol!

I actually like Andy Lau less and less since I watched his Future X Cops on my birthday. Maybe you wanna give it a try too....

@gingersue4242,

I'm with Echo, after seeing Future X Cops, I just can't look at Andy Lau the same way. At this point in his career, why is he doing material that's so clearly beneath him? But all this 刘德华 talk has made me want to hit Baidu 视频 and revisit the brilliance of "A Fighter's Blues" and Takako Tokiwa's etherial beauty.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

You are all clearly in denial. Future X Cops is Andy Lau's magnum opus, perhaps even his Never Say Never. Anyone who didn't cry when he unplugged his daughter to steal her batteries has no heart, and I personally look forward to the 3D version and theatrical re-release so I can treat our entire office to an evening of movie magic.

If it happens anyone in Beijing is welcome to join us. We can make it a Friday night thing with drinks at Sanlitun afterwards for the survivors.

@Echo, Xiao Hu,

Come on, the guy has made much worse films than Future X Cops (Dr Wesley's Mysterious Case File springs to mind, and the very silly Saviour of the Soul II), I'm not going to throw away a decade of love because of that haha!

I do think they shouldn't have gotten rid of the gorgeous Fan Bingbing at the beginning of the film, Barbie Hsu is really not believable as a love interest and I prefer Xu Jiao as a boy in CJ7. But it has robots and aliens and Andy Lau so...!

@Xiao Hu,

Takako Tokiwa is indeed beautiful, I have that film on dvd - have you seen the drama A Beautiful Life?

@trevelyan,

A movie night sounds wonderful (I'm a bit of a movie freak if you hadn't noticed). Unfortunately I'm stuck in the UK for the time being, trying to come up with money making schemes to get me that all important ticket to China.

@Gingersue4242,

I guess it's just that, like I said at this point in his career, Andy Lau shouldn't be indulging himself in the making of such lowbrow fare.

YOU'VE SEEN BEAUTIFUL LIFE? WOW! Of course I've seen it, that's when I fell in love with Takako Tokiwa. That still stands as my #1 favorite TV drama! Everything about it is perfection! The opening song, the leads, the acting, the story, the subplots, all amazing! I have it on DVD and get a hankering for a Beautiful Life fix from time to time.

I wonder if Echo has seen this. His accent is dead on, damn impressive.

@murrayjames, not quite dead on with a few pronunciation errors but like you said impressive. he doesn't seem to have any hesitation thinking in french. he learned by living /speaking everyday with native speakers the most efficient way if one can do it.

i'm back taking to my computer!
