Just because it's Friday doesn't mean we're going to ease up and give you a break from our HSK test prep materials. In the interests of balancing some of the more difficult podcasts and listening exercises that came out early this week though, we are turning down the notch a bit with a sample test designed for Beginner students.

If you're an intermediate student or above, you should find this a breeze, with most questions focusing on knowledge of basic Chinese vocabulary and grammar. As with the real HSK though, in this sample test simply being grammatically correct is not always enough: in all cases you are expected to provide the best possible answer. There can only be one!

Pretty easy. I understand why 这跟我们 又有什么关系 is correct. But the other alternative 这跟我们 就有什么关系? wouldn't make any sense at all then? I get this feeling I might have made this mistake before... Like, "what exactly..."

Johan 提的那题是我做错的。我不太明白“又”在这句话的意思?

Hey guys,

In Chinese "就有" means "just" or "just to have". 就 emphasizes the amount, e.g. --下面有人吗? --就有一个!

In this question, 又 emphasizes the lack of connection. The sentence is grammatically correct without 又, but 又 makes the tone stronger.

11/15. I can't believe I scored the same on a beginner and an intermediate exercise on the same day. I should have known better on #3 but the other three questions I just didn't have the vocabulary for yet. Time to hit the dictionary some more....

@BMG,

Hehe, scores can't show everything.有时候人们反而掌握不好最基本的东西.You just met something unfamiliar.

加油:)

I don't know if people can edit what the meaning is for the Chinese words, but I am pretty sure that 想干 does not mean "want to F***" in Question 11...

@schooley.n,

lol.

干(gàn) is a verb, means to do.

想干means want to do.

eg.

你想干什么?what do you want to do?

你在干什么?what are you doing?

你什么时候能干完?when can you do it over.--(maybe)when can you finish it?

people say this every day...

@Gail - I'm pretty sure schoolney knows what it means.... he was pointing out a problem some people might run into mousing over the answers to a particular lesson test. The issue has been fixed for now.
