Our HSK test for today measures your understanding of verb complements. Don't be put off by the terminology here, these are simply the common endings to many verbs which help describe or explain what exactly they mean. While we expect you can work out the answers to some questions with simple logic, getting others will require more familiarity with Chinese customs. So take our test and see how you do. And if you have any questions or problems, just leave a note in the comments section below. Our trained teachers will do their best to get back to you promptly.

Worst beginner result ever.

You definately found a soft spot here. More of those!

@henning - it's a tough test. My sense is that a lot of these questions aren't tricky once you've heard them used a couple of times, but the relationship between the verb and the complement isn't always easy to work out logically. 坚持下去 etc.

I think people who learn in-country have a huge advantage over everyone else on these sorts of questions because you can usually eliminate a couple on gut feeling alone. Anyway, keep it up! :)

I agree with Henning that this was tough and forced me to review the distinctions between 上去,下去,起来 etc. Good stuff.

Agree with David, a lot of these can be picked up in daily conversations. I still haven't really mastered them in mandarin (esp 看上来, 看上去) but could answer most of the questions after conversion to canto :P Can't figure out 9, 10, 14 though.
