Although he's more widely known for "Northerners are Living Lei Fengs", this piece from Xue Cun's first album is our office favorite. A short song about a student's infatuation with his substitute teacher, it manages to be funny in a touching instead of acerbic way, ultimately sympathizing with the student. In a society where "outsiders" are often looked down upon for being poor or grasping, it's nice to see such counter-treatment: it's tough living far from home.

Update: those in China can find the song online here. For those outside China with access to Youtube, the Chinese title is 星期三的第二堂课.

While Xue Cun might be the .closest thing China has to Adam Sandler, the consistency of his work varies considerably. He has since parlayed his success and connections into appearances on a number of CCTV shows, including the drama series The Office, and continues to produce his own music and music videos, a healthy portion of which involve him dressing in drag and taking on a strong regional accent.

Any chance of another video being posted so the song can be heard? I'm afraid the link posted above was hopelessly slow.
