In the west, the iron laws of entertainment dictate that singers can become actors, but actors rarely become singers. This is yet another area where things work fundamentally differently in China.

As way of proof, our selection this week is a song by Tao Jingying, a successful Taiwanese actress, television star, writer... and now singer. If you're already living in China we're confident you'll have heard this song before. But in the event you're outside the country, you can get the sense for what it feels like to live here by closing your eyes, picturing yourself in a bustling shopping area, and then playing this song simultaneously in three different browser windows.
