We've had a lot of singers here on KTV Wednesday who hail from mainland China and Taiwan. Stefanie Sun is our first megastar from the tiny island of Singapore. And if you don't know her, you should: she is among the most popular female singers in Asia and has produced a least ten albums to date. Even if you've never heard of her, you've probably heard many of her songs without knowing it:

Stefanie has produced so many hits it is hard to pick a single one. In the end we chose this for a completely shallow reason: in addition to Stefanie Sun this video stars a younger Takeshi Kaneshiro. Between the two of them here is enough eye candy to keep the most discriminating language student happy for days.

Also: this song comes from the movie 向左走,向右走 with Kaneshiro Takeshi and Gigi Leung (whence the cuteness with the umbrellas in the video). The movie itself is a pretty inoffensive romantic comedy, but the book it's based on, by Taiwanese cartoonist 几米, is very cute. His books are well worth a read by language students and anyone else looking for something enjoyable to flip through.

Thanks for mentioning 几米 here. I am his big fan. Recommended his books every friend :) Which book you like most? I love the latest 系列. Especially the story about 黑面娃娃.

It's been a few years since I read anything by 几米, actually, but I remember really enjoying 地下铁 -- though I think that might have been mostly because of the translated Rilke poem at the end, "盲女," which I'd never heard of before.

@echo - here's the story online, along with some of the artwork: http://bbs.8j.com/topic/215121_0.htm. Almost arresting.

We should do a lesson on 几米's 失乐园. Maybe we can give away a copy of one of his books too. I really liked the story of 包子头. Not sure if I still have the book - might have given it away.
