Today's sample HSK test is a positioning exercise. We haven't had one of these in a while, so here's the drill: each question is a sentence missing a single word. Your challenge is to figure out where the word fits in the sentence in question. This is as easy as A,B,C....

The nice thing about these exercises (and the reason we don't throw them at you terribly often) is that they test a relatively narrow spectrum of knowledge. Still, there's a lot of variance in how well people do depending on their comfort with Chinese grammar. In most cases, we hope that the correct answer should be obvious, even if you finally settle on it because the other answers simply feel wrong.

13/15. I got question 15 wrong. Why is A wrong exactly? The answer felt more natural to me so I don't quite understand why it's wrong.

11/15. On one question, I should have known better. The other three showed me I still have a lot to learn about 过 and 再.

That's what I like about these sample tests: They help me see where I need to focus my efforts.

8/15. I thought I would do much worse, so this is even a bit comforting.

14.

我 A 劝了 B 他好几次,他 C 决定 D 去医院看病。 (才)

The corrector says that B is the right answer. I doubt. I would have chosen C.

Are you sure it says B? When I answered this yesterday, I answered C and it was correct.

The answer is definitely C.

[UPDATE] default color behavior edited to make it a bit more obvious which is the incorrect answer. In addition to the correct answer getting highlighted in green, incorrect answers are now colored red.

13/15 in just over 4 mins. Same problem for me as yang_betty. I chose C but it said it was wrong.

@boobs,

You did GREAT :)

The correct answer of question 14 is C. We have tested on-click answers again. There is something strange,and it is both working and broken. We'll be looking into it.

@crusty_138,

This is a fixed structure in Chinese: verb+又+the same verb, meaning you do sth again and again. When it is past tense, you can add 了 after the first verb as well. For instance, 他保证了又保证.
