@jssclouw70,

Hi and welcome to the Popup Chinese. If you're an absolute beginner to the Chinese language, you should skip these HSK tests and go straight to our archive of lessons for total beginners:

http://popupchinese.com/lessons/absolute-beginners

The HSK test is the official mandarin proficiency exam run by the Chinese government. Even the beginning levels tend to be relatively difficult -- you'll want an easier way to get your feet wet and our beginner-level podcasts are designed to do just that. Thanks also for commenting, and be sure to let us know if you have any questions or problems.

On question # 9 why is only 时期 correct?

The dictionary seems to say that 时期,时间 and 时候 all have the same meaning. How are they used differently?

@etbaccata,

Here is the difference between 时期,时间 and 时候:

时期 means a period of time. It can be used to indicate different periods of time in one's life, for instance, 少年时期,青年时期 and 中年时期.

时间 is usually more specific. For example, you can say 放假的时间是两个月. It also has another special meaning that other two words don't have, which is free time. For instance, 你有时间吗?

时候 is usually talking about some moments under certain conditions. For instance, 吃饭的时候不要说话.
