First of all, Happy Thanksgiving to all of our American users. On this glorious Friday in Beijing we're happy to bring you another round of HSK exercises designed to torment those of you throwing yourselves at the Advanced HSK test. Our goals are benevolent though: increasing your confidence and your final HSK score.

If you're relatively fresh to these Advanced questions, remember that part of the difficulty is the time limit. In a real test situation, you would have under 15 minutes to complete these questions, or less than one minute per question. One of the key skills for correctly answering fill-in-the-blank exercises at the upper levels is the ability to rapidly eliminate answers. So best of luck, and have a happy Thanksgiving.

It took me 30 minutes and I looked up several words (like those ominous 腐烂 腐败 腐坏 败坏). With this type of cheating I managed to reach 9/15.

This is my record for this level - considering that I always happily cheat at Advanced.

Also 9/15. Still have no idea what #8 means, even after checking the dictionary. Can someone provide a translation?

@derek,

Which part gave you hard time? The translation should be: However, not only is the infringing party unaware their actions have already caused harm to human dignity, the party harmed (and their guardian) is unaware of it as well.

Thanks Echo,

That makes sense now, it was the conjunction of (以及监护人) that confused me, too much information for my feeble brain. :)

God, I keep choosing the right answer and then going back and changing it.

I remember my Korean and Japanese friends in Beijing always had fat hsk study books, with chapters and chapters of questions like these. Anybody have recommendations/knowledge on where to get these? Chinese-only publications are fine.

Theres a decent selection of test prep materials in the bookstore by Lush in Wudaokou. Im not sure where one would go to purchase that sort of thing online though.

Perhaps we should look at stocking some of that stuff as well. Can be a bit pricey shipping anything physical and heavy from China, but perhaps we can stock some of the lighter sample tests ourselves. No audio, but mailable.

@stratman1&garethamew,

There are three good stores where you can buy Chinese learning materials in 五道口, one is called 光合作用 and just near by the subway station. Other two are both in 北京语言大学, and one is on the second floor of its library while another is at the south gate.

You can try 当当网-- www.dangdang.com to buy books online.

关于HSK的辅导书,我个人还是比较喜欢北京语言大学出版的,《HSK速成强化教程》有初中等和高等两册,我觉得用着不错,另外还有北京大学出版的《HSK词汇速成》对词语的辨析比较都是不错的。
