Matthew's reluctance to meet her parents had concerned Stacy. "I've had bad experiences with that in the past," he would say whenever she suggested it. But now they had been together for two years there was no avoiding it, which was how Stacy had finally dragged him out to the Boston suburbs to meet her folks....

Our elementary listening test for today revolves around a bizarre mini-play that's a favorite in our office. In addition to a generous helping of multiple choice questions, we've added a new question type as well: the missing word puzzler. So listen in once and then click through to our quiz section to gauge your comprehension. If you can get over eighty percent consistently you are doing well enough to advance to our intermediate level.

Good luck with the new question type. The missing word questions can be really tough. And don't be afraid to look up words if you don't know what they mean!

I had some technical difficulties with the new question type. The results showed as being all wrong, even though most of the words were in the right place.

@ckw4y,

Chris - I've taken another look at the code to try and sort this out. Can you email us at service@popupchinese.com to let us know what browser you're using and what your display settings are? That would be useful in replicating the problem so we can fix it.

Best,

Hilarious, but I had the same problem with the fill-in-the-blank questions. All were marked wrong (red). I'm on Firefox 3.5.7 on a Mac.

@toneandcolor and @ckw4y,

Thanks for the reports guys. Thanks to Chris, I've confirmed problems matching answers when the display mode is switched after the page loads, as the answers aren't switched to the new display mode. I'll try to whip up a workaround for that later today. In the meantime, thanks for reporting the problems.

Have just updated the backend to fix the issue we've had with the new question type when people switch display options midway through the test. I'll test the new code against the Mac later this evening when I'm back home.

As a side effect, the test now accepts in pinyin when displaying text in simplified or traditional Chinese. I personally find this a lot easier than copying and pasting: just be sure to provide the pinyin in tonal form (either diacretic or tonal pinyin is accepted).

Still having technical issues with missing word question type. Is there a list somewhere of all the lessons with quizzes attached?

I'll take a look later today, thanks for the heads up.
