"BATTARY" is not a word. That should be "BATTERY", just like word for an electric storage cell or a gun emplacement. FYI: "ASSAULT", as in "ASSAULT AND BATTERY", is the "THREATENING" of violence and "BATTERY" is the "VISITATION" of violence.

is the huì 会 .. de 的 and yào 要 .. le 了 interchangeable

e.g. the plane is about to take off or i won't be late

can one use either one?

what about the following sentence:

winter is coming the geese will fly south ?

会...的 and 要...了 both are used for future tense.

会...的 implies "hope, promise, warning or threat" i.e. 飞机会起飞的；我会打你的。

要...了 usually is just a statement. i.e. 我要走了。飞机要起飞了。

So technically they are not interchangeable.

冬天来了，(geese? or just birds?) 鸟儿们要飞回南方了。

Hi

In practice are they interchangeable though? If you used one instead of the other by mistake would it sound odd? I am struggling a bit with tenses.

They both are used in future tense. It would sound off if you used one instead of the other by mistake simply because 会...的 has more emotions in it and 要...了 is just a statement. That being said, to be safe, 要...了 can be used more often if you are not sure what the emotions are, in that case, people can still understand you no problem.

Yes! ni3 gan3 xiao4 wo3 is correct.

ni3 gan3 shuo1 wo3 means"you dare to lecture me?" or " you dare to talk about me?"
