Hi, could anyone recommend few free and paid VPN services for my Chinese friends eager to join FB and watch Youtube :)

Thanks,

I use Wit*pia. Probably the biggest VPN in China--the NYT mentioned them in an article on internet freedom in China a few years ago. Consequently, they are singled out by authorities and suffer service outages a few times a year.

I pay $60 US/year. Good speeds in Chengdu. Great customer service.

WebFreer is a free browser modification of Google Chrome. It gives you access to Facebook, Youtube etc through secure proxies, works almost all the time, has no subscription fees, no set-ups required and its typically faster than basic VPNs.

Saying that, its got a lot of pop-up ads, but if you are used to the level of adverts on a lot of Chinese sites, its not too bad, just don't set it as your default browser.

Weirdly, I can only find it on Chinese-language search engines.

The first time you use it, you have to let it fully load up the home page for it to work properly
