It wants you to pick the word which has the same contextual meaning as the word from the original sentence.

This has come up with other question forms as well. I'm sure they're self-explanatory to everyone but me - I haven't had a language exam in about 35 years, so a bit out of touch. Is there a place on the site that explains how the testing works?

It's usually explained in the introduction of the tests. If you can't find it, then it should be explained in the previous tests.
