I was wondering if anybody knew the meaning on this plate and the signature on back? cathydhs@verizon.net http://tinypic.com/r/14ppv5/5

The big character looks like 双喜 ("double happiness") to me: two 喜 characters placed side-by-side and compressed into a single artistic character. That would explain the two boxes at the bottom and the single 土 at the top. The middle looks mixed up though. I'm not sure it makes sense.

Is the second image a name?

I guess the second is the signature of the artist and maybe the date of origin?

The big character is a stylized 壽/寿, "long life," or at least that's my best guess. 双喜 is a possibility too, but I think 寿 is more likely.

The second is indeed the artist's signature -- 貝陸 制, "Made by Bei Lu."
