Hey, I'm looking to keep up on my mandarin now that I'm back in the states. Can anyone suggest some films that are in Mandarin that I could use to keep up on my listening comprehension?

Thanks!

-bonus points if it can be found streaming online.

Aftershock, sad and touching mv about a family's struggle with 2 earthquakes (the 77 Tangshan quake and the 2008 Wenchuan quake). Quite brutal, for a drama. I liked it.

Hmm... if you just want to be entertained and aren't looking for classic cinema I'd vote for:

* Needing You

* Love on a Diet

* 无间道

* Let the Bullets Fly

* Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress

* Big Shot's Funeral

* 有话好好说 (?)

* 宝贝计划 (Jackie Chan's baby/action comedy)

Not all mainland movies, but they should all have mandarin soundtracks.

I've had better luck with Taiwanese film than Chinese but then again I'm general into indie stuff.

Orz Boys is about 2 little brothers kind of in their own world, I'm not the sentimental family type but I really enjoyed it.

Pier Number 9 was cheesy but enjoyable. Mixes Chinese Japanese and Taiwanese but 70% chinese.

I really like the first 3/4 of Candy Rain. It's 4 short stories about lesbian relationships and the first 3 were really great. The last was just terrible though. There was another good movie the same year with short stories about lesbians. I'm not particular to lesbians, I watched both because of a top Taiwanese films of 2008 list haha
