Great piece written by Sidney Rittenberg back in 1967 when he was rubbing elbows with 毛泽东, 周恩来, and 朱德. Fascinating look through a westerner's eyes about what he thought and experienced back then.

Thanks for sharing this. I believe Sidney Rittenberg is still alive as well -- especially given his ideological views on all this it would be interesting to hear what he thinks (assuming he still does) about the developments in China over the past twenty years or so. A betrayal of principles or fulfillment of promise?
