一年四季中我最喜欢春天了。Out of all the seasons, I like Spring best. (Courtesy Skritter)

What does the 了at the end of the sentence express?

Thanks!

I believe it's because preferences aren't eternally fixed. So it means something like "I like Spring best (now)".

@huyilin,

Here 了 is used for emphasis - the feelings you have or your statements. So 了 doesn't change the meaning of the sentence if you use it - just emphasizes on what you want to express.

i.e. 我最喜欢你 you can say 我最喜欢你了.

This usage of 了 is used more often with superlatives.

i.e.这几个城市里,我最喜欢北京了。

了 here is like 啦 ,it is just a 语气词,to express emotion.it's ok to ignore it .

as a native chinese i should say, with 了 it probably used in daily conversation,a more casual way.without 了, it maily used in written chinese,more official.i agree with that it just a kind of filler word to express your emotion,it's okay to igore it.
