For those of us in the camp that think writing Chinese is not necessary or impractical to learn, but do want a piece of paper showing we know how to speak Chinese, enter the Hanyu Kouyu Ceshi

Since the funding seems to be coming directly from the Ministry of Education, this looks like a pet project rather than something serious. It certainly seems strange that any test of oral proficiency is genuinely intended to be computer-administrated.
