My initial guess is it means something like: "I want to enjoy the fruits of my labour". Or, "I have struggled in the past, now I want to live a little."Am I on the right track do you think? Also, can anyone think of a snappier translation?
Another idea: "I eat bones while my husband secretly eats the meat". It's about corruption and a cynical take on those who claim they are not involved in the corrupt activities of friends/relatives/colleagues. I think this last one makes more sense now I think of it.
Okay I'm going to go for "people with corrupt friends don't have clean hands". Here's the Chinese 我食骨我老細食肉. If anyone has any other ideas let me know.
From what I know, 老细 means 老板(boss) in Guangdonghua(广东话) which comes from Cantonese. So my understanding of the sentence is "I eat bones while my boss eats the meat" which implies he's been taken advantage of by his boss. Or in the context you mentioned, maybe they are involved in some corrupt activities and his boss profited way more than he did even he put in all the work.
