Hi,I haven't been on here for a while and I just wondered what the number after my user name means?James
@j.stewartwallace,That's the score you have got from taking our word review tests. You can go to study center to take more :)--Echoecho@popupchinese

The tests are fun :-) My current score is 18098. How did I get the 8 pts? All the questions I answer are worth 10 points.
(EDIT: Ah, I see. Correct answers on flashcards are worth +3 points each.)
Do the Popup HSK test and lesson quizzes contribute to your score? I do these too, but they don't seem to have an affect on my point total.

Cool, I think this is a great idea.
My score is (000), maybe because I've never taken the test. But if I posted my students' grades with their names online, I would be fired! We don't like merit in the USA these days.
@jlepo,Heyhey Joe! This is not relevant to your post. Just a pure welcoming message. Glad to see you start posting on the site :) I'll see you more here!--Echoecho@poupchinese.com

I used to play trivia games on Xbox Live. It worked something like this: Answer a series of questions. Every correct answer was worth points. Xbox kept track of my score, and posted it (along with any awards I'd accumulated) in the community space and on my profile card. I had chosen my own username--I could have anonymity if I wanted--and no private information was given aside from what I volunteered about myself.
The leaderboards at Popup Chinese are more similar to this, I suspect, than to a school posting student grades in public. I actually like the community aspect here and hope it gets expanded.
Parenthetically, Popup is a better way to learn Chinese than Xbox Live.
