Hi,

I can't find any e-mail support so I guess I should write you here then. A lot of the vocab I added to my vocab-list is displayed as question-marks instead of 汉字 which makes review impossible. This vocab was what I manually added from the Wang Xiao Bo Story.

Thanks.

erik.wenlin,

Thanks the email -- I was just looking into it now. Suggestions on trying to debug this below, but in the meantime can you let me know what OS and browser you are using?

I'm wondering if you are using an older version of Internet Explorer? And how exactly are you adding the words that are causing you problems? Is the problem caused when you add an entire lesson's vocabulary from the vocab page, or by clicking on words from the transcript one-by-one.

Assuming that you can see SOME words with Chinese characters in your vocab list (when I test with your account I can see a mixture of words that display properly and improperly), we can assume that the problem isn't a display issue -- your browser can display Chinese characters.

As best I can tell, some words you "click-to-add" from lesson transcripts are getting put into your vocabulary list as ??. This is the way the data is getting stored in our database, so the most likely cause of this is a browser problem sending malformed data (i.e. not handling UTF-encoded data properly). I know that some older versions of IE have this issue, although if this is the case there isn't anything we can do about it since the scrambling is happening in the browser rather than the server. Upgrading to Firefox or Chrome WILL solve the problem if this is the case.

Maybe if you can provide a bit more detail about how the scrambled (as opposed to unscrambled) words are being added and your specific setup I can try to be a bit more helpful with workaround suggestions.

Best,
