I have been learning Mandarin for last 2 years (3 hour classes per week)I think I know around 500-600 words. I am not sure what is the standard of HSK Level 2 exams. I know its not possible for anyone else to advise if level 2 would be easy or tough for me. But as a general advise, will I able to take level 2 exam comfortably? Or should I take level 1?Thanks,Bhawash

According to the New HSK standard, you should be able to comfortably take Level 2 test which only requires ~300 vocabulary. But do some practice before the test, just to get familiar with the pattern.

Not intended aggressively, but unless you have a particular reason to take the exam, why do you want to do the HSK anyway? Level 4 on the new test approximates to Level 1 on the original, so the first three levels are tremendously easy....
Hanban has added the extra levels to try and suggest conformity with the European Common Languages Framework, but the result is that the easier levels are not practically very useful. Unless you have a specific goal in mind with the test, why take it? Or... why not push yourself to level 4?
I don't really have any strong reason for taking up the test. Its just for an extra 'certificate'. Hanban certificate will be widely accepted than the certificate issued by the school where I am learning right now.I wish to pursue my higher studies in Singapore or China. Even though my course will only be in English, I thought HSK certificate might add extra points on my card. I have around 2 years in hand. As per your advise, I must decide whether to clear easier levels first or directly take up the higher level next year.Thanks,Bhawash
