Hi guys,

My Chinese wife and I are thinking of setting off to Tibet around March. I've been reading and apparently it's a sensitive time to go.

Does anyone have any experiences of going there at all, perhaps during that time of year?

I'm concerned about temperatures, permits, restrictions, etc.

Any information either from first or second hand experience would be great! Thanks ever so much.

PS: I live in Yunnan and have a Z-visa, so I would be traveling from within the mainland.

Hey 华金

We have been to QingHai this summer and wanted to go down towards Tibet, not even in the province itself. South of Golmud we got stopped already. No chance to go near Tibet without a permit it seems. I heard from friends that Lhasa is not a problem if you fly there directly, don't leave the city and get a guide. Good luck!

Thanks so much Michael. Apologies for the belated reply. Indeed, even with a permit, it seems impossible to go anywhere other than the very small number of places that have been green-lit by the government. Terrible shame, really, since there are many other places in Tibet that we would love to go to too.
