After two weeks focusing on developments at the 18th Party Congress, and with the next generation of China's leadership now public news for the world to digest, this week on Sinica we take a break from China's leadership transition and turn our attention to more long-term developments in Chinese foreign policy. And with this in mind, Kaiser Kuo is delighted to be joined by Taylor Fravel, Associate Professor of Political Science at MIT and expert on Chinese foreign policy and particularly its naval development.

On a side note, we should mention that we've had quality issues recording this show. The audio isn't horrible, but it isn't the quality we'd like and we're sorry for the listening pain, which starts about five minutes in. That said, we will fix this in the future, and if you want to subscribe to future shows by RSS, you can do so by using our public feed at http://popupchinese.com/feeds/custom/sinica. Inquiries and suggestions for future show topics are also welcome by email at sinica@popupchinese.com.

Sinica is fantastic—so much so that I miss it when it doesn't show up. What's the best way to know if a particular week's show has been cancelled? For example at the end of this podcast, Kaiser says something to the effect of "we'll be back next week." That never seems to have materialized, nor this week so far.

Thanksgiving intervened. I know there are plans for a show next week. If you want to be notified on publication RSS is probably the best as described in the podcast intro. The general Popup Chinese feed also contains the Sinica shows as well.
