If you've ever worked in it, you know the hospitality industry is a tough game. You've got to have the patience of Job, nerves of steel, and - most importantly - the inventory that people want. In today's listening test we eavesdrop on a sales encounter that starts off normally, and ends up somewhere else.

For best results, we recommend listening to today's dialogue first, and then taking the quiz to gauge your comprehension. If you have questions about the materials after that, you can visit the text section for our line-by-line translation and mouseover popups, or ask questions in the discussion section. If you find yourself missing some of the vocabulary, we've highlighted the most critical words in our vocab section.

Good luck!

Nice site and great lesson! I got 8/10 on the quiz. I was tripped up by question 5 and question 10. Not too difficult overall - am kicking myself for getting those wrong.

@doubt616 - The picture with the headphones, right? It's working for me right here, right now at least. What exactly is the problem that you're having? Can you try right-clicking and selecting "Save As..." to save the file. Does that work?

Your account is supposed to give you access to these files. If you don't have access to ANY of the files on this or any other lessons can you try logging out and then logging in again. This is required after upgrading. If you have access to downloads on other lessons but not this lesson then we have an interesting and unexpected problem. Can you share more details and confirm it isn't the problem listed above (i.e. logging in again doesn't fix it?)

@trevelyan - "Can you try right-clicking and selecting "Save As..." to save the file. Does that work?"

Problem solved! 谢谢你。 Right-clicking did the trick for whatever reason. I did not have to log-in again.

Hey, sorry to be a bother but for some reason I can't get the sound to work on the vocab and flashcard section of this lesson (and the feline one) I tried with a few other lessons to make sure that it wasn't my computer, but the sound works fine on others, but not this one. Can you see if there is anything up with the sound?

@achim_boers,

This lesson is a listening test, so there isn't any standalone podcast -- which is why you're having trouble. The lesson is the dialogue. You're supposed to listen to it and then take a shot at the accompanying quiz before looking at the transcript to see what you got wrong and why.

We used not to have quizzes bundled with lessons. Now that we've added them to most lessons, we don't do these listening tests as much as before, although we'll still occasionally come out with something if it is a longer dialogue.

Best,

I've moved on to other lessons but FYI the fix is static hiss only. I have the lessons subscribed to in iTunes but I also tried the right-click / save-as option but again only static.

The "popup fix" doesn't work on this one, elementary-customer-service-fix.mp3. I can hear the intro and outro, but in-between it's just static :(
