Our biological clock is a natural wonder. It tells us when to sleep, when to wake, and of course when to eat. So when the alarms start sounding and the hunger pangs strike, there's only one prudent course of action: start complaining as loudly as possible in the hope that someone will appear with food. It worked when you were a kid, right?

If you are totally new to learning Chinese you are in the right place. Join us in this podcast and we'll teach you all the mandarin you'll ever need to know in order to make uncompromising demands on those around you. In this lesson we will teach you six easy adjectives and two simple verbs that will help you amaze others with your fluency, and might also get you fed in the process.

What is the difference between hao3 and hen3 when it comes before an adjective? Are the two totally interchangeable?

@jim - 好 feels a bit more emphatic and laid back to me. If you're not sure which is appropriate, go with 很.

@jim.veseley,

orbital has the point, and more young people would say 好 than 很, also, people from south china would prefer to say 好。

and 好 can be used in exclamatory sentences when you put it in the structure of 好+adjective. eg. 好漂亮啊!好厉害啊!you are not going to use 很漂亮啊!很厉害啊!

personally i think 好 is stronger than 很 sometimes...

I think you can check out our "Absolute Beginner"and"Elementary" lessons. The dialogues/sentences in these lessons are basic, like how to say hello, how to express your feelings with one simple sentence or how to ask for sth, etc.

Please always feel free to leave a comment on the site or write to me though email if you have any questions.

On the transcript, shen2me is written as 甚麼. 為什麼不是"什麼"? 都可不可以?

@lakers4sho,

If you are looking at the traditional version, it should be 甚麼. That's the correct one :)
