I've only been in China teaching English 3.5 years, yet I've met 37.5 students( male and female ... roughly 30:70) that denominate themselves as `Echo'. Has this something to do with our dear Echo here? I hardly think so. Rather 三毛 et al. A good podcast would deal with just who `Echo, sanmao is' haven't heard it yet, but mighta missed something.

Ha ha -- I've never met a male student calling themselves Echo, but it isn't surprising....

I think San Mao has come up a few times in some advanced shows, but I don't think we've ever had a show exclusively on her, although we do have an annotated short story of her's on the site for anyone interested from beaudarc's comment:

She is one of my favourite Chinese authors fwiw, although she shares the gravitational draw many Chinese romantics have to melodrama and (self-inflicted) tragedy. It was a sad ending to her life, but she was drawn to it.
