Yet another Popup Chinese video....

Posted by trevelyan at March 29, 2009

We've just put up a new Popup Chinese video. If you're not logged in, you'll probably already have noticed it sitting right there on the front page. If you are logged in try logging out for a bit and you'll be able to see it too. Right on the main page:

http://popupchinese.com

Our goal with this video is to help new visitors understand a bit more about what we do and get a sense for some of the people who are working here behind the scenes. We also tip the hat a bit about some of the things that set us apart as the best resource on the web for serious Chinese language study.

If you're looking for a distracting minute I'd encourage you to check it out, if for nothing more than the spectacular visuals of some of our recording team. Those of you who've been in Beijing should also pick up on the location of parts of our photo shoot almost instantly: the Drum Tower, Gulou Dong Street and Houhai - the ancient man-made lake that runs into the hutongs north of the Forbidden City. This isn't far from our office, by the way, so you get to see our neighborhood too. Should be almost instantly recognizable to those of you who've been in Beijing and know why this is such a great city.

Nice video. I really liked Houhai when I was there years back. Looks a lot busier than I remember, but that bridge is pretty distinctive. You guys are lucky to work in the vicinity.

Nice scrummage at the bridge. Next time you should get some shots of the boats smashing into each other down below as well. The ones with the giant duck heads can look surprisingly menacing when driven straight at you at full speed by drunken middle-aged cadres.

Waaaah Dave has such a babyface! Is that really him? I'd pictured someone a bit more... grizzled. Such a deep bass voice, but looks like he's 16 or something!

Echo looks really young too! 你们是否毕业了高中学校?

我可不相信!

Nice to find out that PopupChinese= 泡泡中文,I haven't really been able to catch it, I've always thought Echo was saying it in English but not getting it right.

More videos please!

@maxiewawa,

Babyface? 16? Lol, I can't wait to see what D would say about them.

Thank you maxiewawa. I take it as compliment, 女人都想要年轻嘛,哈哈. Tell you a secret, actually I will get one year older later this week :P

barrister,

I think the duck/goose itself is cute. Remind me of my childhood. We call that kind of boat 脚踏船(pedalo) in Chinese.

@maxiewawa -- prettying yourself up for the camera just takes the years off. If you drop by in person, you'll find I'm more of the grizzled war-vet type. Grey hair, days of stubble, a slight limp, etc.

I found this bit hilarious btw. "I've always thought Echo was saying it in English but not getting it right." lolol. We clearly need to swap out the header graphic to include the new graphic with the stamp. Probably a *bad thing* if we're giving people the impression we're too incompetent to pronounce our own name.
